The short version
Lily Memory keeps everything on your phone. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We do not collect, receive or sell any personal data. The only time Lily Memory itself goes online is the one-time download of its speech model, if you choose to use it. A backup file of your garden is saved only where you choose.
What Lily Memory keeps, and where
Everything you put into Lily Memory stays in the app's private storage on your phone:
- the verses in your garden, your notes and tags on them, and how each review went (the schedule, slips, streak and practice history);
- your settings (pace, reminders, theme, keyboard, speech engine and so on);
- the text the home-screen widget shows.
We never receive any of it. Uninstalling Lily Memory, or “Start over” in Settings, deletes it from the phone (a backup file you saved stays where you put it; see below).
Android's own backup may include Lily Memory's data in your personal Google device backup, under your Google account and Google's terms. We cannot see these backups.
Backup files
In Settings you can save a backup file of your garden, and restore from one. Lily Memory saves it only where you choose in Android's file picker (your phone's storage, or a cloud folder you pick there), or hands it to the app you pick in the share sheet. We never receive it. The file holds your verses, notes, review history and settings as plain text (JSON), so keep it somewhere you trust. Restoring reads only the file you pick. A backup file stays where you put it after you uninstall Lily Memory or start over; delete it there when you no longer want it.
Bible text
The Berean Standard Bible (BSB) and the King James Version (KJV) are built into the app. Looking up, adding and reviewing verses works offline and sends nothing anywhere.
“Say it aloud” and the microphone
“Say it aloud” lets you recite a verse instead of typing it. It asks for microphone permission the first time you use it, and only listens while you have it turned on.
- Lily Memory's own speech engine (the default) turns your voice into words on the phone itself. Your audio is never recorded to a file and never leaves the phone. While you recite, up to the last 90 seconds are held in the app's memory (never saved to storage) until you next recite or the app closes.
- Your phone's speech engine (a choice in Settings, and what listens until Lily Memory's own engine is downloaded) hands your audio to the speech recognition service on your phone, such as Google's. Lily Memory asks it to work offline where it can, but that service may process audio under its own privacy policy, not this one.
The one-time speech model download
Lily Memory's own speech engine needs a model file (about 117 MB). Lily Memory asks before downloading it. It comes from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), a public file host, over an encrypted connection. Like any download, this request shows Hugging Face your phone's IP address and basic connection details. Lily Memory sends nothing else with it: no account, no identifier, no audio and nothing about your verses. See Hugging Face's privacy policy for how they handle requests.
Notifications
Daily reminders and the verse of the day are scheduled on your phone. They are not sent from a server.
Sharing and copying
When you share a verse card or copy a verse, Lily Memory hands it to the app you pick (or the clipboard) only because you asked it to. What happens next is up to that app.
Children
Lily Memory does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal data at all.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
